The Recreation and Park Commission for the Parish of East Baton Rouge, also known as BREC, is bringing in the holidays with many special events this month.

The festivities begin with Caroling in the Park, featuring a park lighting ceremony, candle light caroling and many other activities for the family. It will take place from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm this evening (December 10) in Baton Rouge City Park.

The Toys for Tots Ollie Challenge will be at Perkins Road Community Park, known as the ‘Extreme Sports Park’ on December 12 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Urban Nine and Rukus, local skate shops, sponsor this event where skaters compete for special prizes and donate a toy to brighten the holiday season for a child.

The newest holiday tradition is ZooLights at the Baton Rouge Zoo. These massive light displays of holiday traditions and zoo animals are running now through December 30 from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm.

The annual Creole Christmas will be held at the Magnolia Mound Plantation from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm on December 13. The historic house will be decorated for the season, local school children will sing traditional songs in Spanish and French, and there will be a bonfire, folk crafts, and much more.

Most likely, BREC is turning to local print companies to print posters promoting these events.
