Snellville Farmers Market rated number one

Snellville has been voted as having the best farmers market in the country, beating off competition from hundreds of other towns.
According to the top 100 compiled by the American Farmland Trust’s ‘I Love My Farmers Market’ Celebration, the local market has improved on its previous two years’ rating, to take top spot for the first time.
Announced on September 9, the Facebook page for the Snellville Farmers Market said:
“Can you guess which farmers’ market is #1 in Georgia and #1 in the NATION? Thanks so much to all our fans and supporters who pledged to spend money with our farmers and other great vendors. The market truly supports our local economy.”
It is a great result for the market, and shows that the local folks are fully behind it, responding to the poster, banner, and flyer printing that always takes place to big it up.
It is also a great response to last year, which saw the market hit number one in the state, but only make it to number two across the whole of the U.S. In the two previous years, the market was sat at number three in the country.
The ranking is largely based on the pledges each market receives, however, and Snellville topped the chart in that area easily this year. In total, more than 2,700 folks pledged $10 to the cause. Raising a total of $27,460, it was some way clear of the $12,680 posted by second placed Aptos Farmers Market, California.
The last Snellville market of the year takes place on Saturday, September 28.
