Savannah rated in top list for global landmarks

Folks in Savannah may well have good reason to start with a little banner printing, and perhaps even organize an all home-grown ticker tape parade. That could certainly be the result, after a top travel website listed the city amongst the best places in the world to visit.

Just a few weeks ago, popular travel review website TripAdvisor announced its ‘Top 25 Landmarks in the World for 2013’. Along with five other U.S. destinations, Savannah’s very own Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist made the list.

The much loved Cathedral is certainly in esteemed company; the other sights making the list for the U.S. this year included the iconic Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, for example. That ranked at 23 in the list – just a single place above our own landmark.

Other top destinations across the country saw the Bellagio Fountains in Las Vegas voted at position 12, the Gettysburg National Military Park ranking at 15, and the USS Arizona Memorial in Honolulu hitting 19th spot.

The Top of the Rock Observation Deck in New York came in at number 21.

Whilst the rankings may surprise some, there will be those rightly thinking the recognition is deserved. However, with such a high profile recognition as TripAdvisor offers, many local businesses from all over could well be set for a surge in tourists over coming months. That would be very welcome indeed, so getting the printed marketing tools in place could well be advisable.
