Newnan gets ready to run

Registrations are still being taken for the famous Labor Day weekend road race in Newnan. Residents wanting to take part have probably already noticed the flyers and posters around, with stationery printing for the event having taken place over the last few weeks. However, though many have registered, there are still many more places. Basically, anyone who wants to run for fun can join, regardless of their age.

The event gets underway at 7.45 am, with a one-mile walk and run. This is then followed by the main event at 8:00am, with the 5k run through the town. For the very small kiddies of Newnan, there is also a short ‘Tot Trot’ immediately after the 5k.

Anyone taking place, which will cost them $25 per person, not only gets guaranteed entry but will also be able to enjoy light refreshments and gets to keep a commemorative printed T-shirt.

The run is part of a number of events in the holiday weekend, running from August 31 through September 1. Another highlight sees downtown businesses hosting the Annual Sidewalk Sale from 9:00 am through 5:00 pm. Always a great event for a bargain, it also gives local firms the chance to advertise their services, so business card and catalog printing is always advisable.

This year’s road race takes place on September 1, come rain or shine, and the race will be starting at West Broad Street, where runners are asked to gather. Continuing on to Newnan High School and taking in much of the historic town, it will finish at Court Square.
