Development entries invited for downtown project

Weeks after the major renovation of Sandy Springs’ downtown area was confirmed, five teams of developers have been invited to enter their plans for consideration.

With drawings and plans, sketches and storybooks all being gathered together in time for professional brochure printing, all are bidding for Master Developer on the scheme.

The teams were invited a few weeks ago, (Wednesday January 22 2014), to submit their full and final ideas. The fire teams were selected from a larger short list some weeks previously, the process for which started towards the end of last year.

The five teams invited to enter their final proposals include Batson-Cook joining with Pope & Land, and, Carter joining with Selig Enterprises. Others are North American Properties, Seven Oaks Company joining with Orkin & Associates and John Wieland Homes and partners.

Discussing the next steps, John McDonough the Sandy Springs city manager said:

“The intent of the RFP is to acquire sufficient information regarding the proposers’ approach, concept… and financial condition.”

The teams have been asked to get their final plans back to the authorities by March 28 2014. The council will then have about four months to decide which proposal they favor, before drawing up an overarching agreement through July.

The downtown revamp will focus on defined area of the city which has been made clear to the public.
