September 2, 2012 by Mark
The very first 10k run on the Eastside Trail has been announced by the Atlanta BeltLine Running Series. The 10k run will take place for the second year this December.
Runners will be able to enjoy the scenery of the new Eastside Trail, with walkers being welcome to participate too. According to a recent news release, the run is the first official event to take place on the Eastside Trail, taking in Poncey-Highland, Old Fourth Ward, Inman Park, the Midtown neighborhoods, and Virginia-Highland.
The route will also cover a section of the Atlanta BeltLine corridor, which is off-road, travels through Piedmont Park, goes by the Historic Fourth Ward Park, and offers views of Midtown and Downtown. The details of the route will possibly be outlined in promotional materials, using local poster printing services. Fans of college football are being encouraged to take part in the run prior to the evening’s football program, as the 10k run is planned for the same date as Championship Saturday and SEC championship. Football fans are encouraged to take part as representatives of their schools, with teams from Georgia State University, Kansas State University, and Vanderbilt University already formed, with others acting fast in joining them.
On the day, which has been confirmed as December 1, a neighborhood challenge will also take place, competing for a prize of $1,000. The prize will go the neighborhood team which is most spirited, the fastest, and the largest. Registration prior to November 28 will cost slightly less and proceeds go to the Atlanta BeltLine Partnership.
