City of Winter Park has the healthiest employees
December 8, 2011 by James
The Orlando Business Journal has chosen the City of Winter Park as one of Central Florida’s Healthiest Employers for 2011. It was picked for implementing “policies and initiatives that promote the health and well-being of their staff.
The winner is chosen by a committee of health care, wellness, academic and businesses professionals. Every type of business is eligible for this honor. Winter Park’s winning this award is a great example to other local businesses. Arranging for poster printing of health tips to place in the lunch room of any businesses would be a first start. Also, promoting the City’s winning this can be good motivation for employees of other local businesses to try and win it next year for their company.
The City of Winter Park’s Human Resources Division has implemented several programs to make their employees healthier. They have arranged for onsite exercise classes, lunch and learn seminars about such topics as stress reduction, onsite weight loss programs, an annual health fair, the Active Employee Assistance Program, onsite massage, a prescription drug program, a Health Action Nurse Coach and delivering fresh fruit to government offices.
Everyone wants to be healthier these days but it’s often hard when you work 8 hours a day; you are tired by the time you get home and don’t want to exercise. However, if you have the chance to do this at work you will not only be healthier but you will be a more attentive and valuable employee.
