Tampa’s Westshore district welcomes outdoor goods store

Flint Creek Outfitters, a retailer that carries outdoor equipment, particularly backpacking gear and fly fishing equipment, will open a new location in the Westshore district of Tampa. The new store will comprise 5,500 square feet, and is slated to open next month.
The retailer is based in Ocala and already has a location in Lithia, about a half-hour from Tampa. It will close the Lithia store approximately two weeks before it opens in Westshore. Max Michalski, the store’s general manager, says the move is based on customer feedback. Flint Creek’s target consumers expressed a desire to have the store in a more central area, prompting the company to take the action. To add to the fun of the opening, Flint Creek plans to use a converted 1965 Airstream trailer as a mobile showroom on the date of the opening.
Sporting goods stores were previously something of a rarity in Tampa, though more are opening now, including Bass Pro Shops, Gander Mountain, and Dick’s Sporting Goods. Flint Creek has stores in Tavares and Ocala in addition to the new Tampa location, and will now be looking to make its mark in a city welcoming in stores of this kind.
Flint Creek could work with a flyer or catalog printing company to create a hand-out for the opening day and perhaps for the following week, comprising a map of the new store layout and its hour. Newly opened stores sometimes also offer a coupon for use on those days.
