Tampa residents enjoy a successful fundraiser

The DeBartolo Family Foundation has been helping needy Tampa residents since 2001, and just held its 11th fundraiser to continue doing so.

The Foundation’s All Star Charity Gala raised nearly $800,000, which will go to fund such efforts as helping high school students win scholarships, helping families during the holidays, and buying necessary supplies for school teachers.

Many of the celebrity guests at the gala, which was held at The Hangar at the Peter O. Knight Airport, located on Davis Islands, were from the sports world. They included NFL star wide receiver Jerry Rice, who is a member of the Hall of Fame. Current Tampa Bay Buccaneers Ronde Barber, Derrick Brooks, Davin Joseph, Vincent Jackson and Shelton Quarles were also present.

Joe Maddon, manager of the Tampa Bay Rays, paid a visit, as did the city’s pro baseball team and celebrity chefs Scott Conant and Tyler Florence. Approximately 700 people packed the venue to meet these celebrities and contribute to the DeBartolo’s efforts.

The DeBartolo Family Foundation sponsors the Spirit of Humanity Award; Community Grants; and Scholarship Awards. The Foundation gives monetary help to organizations coming to the aid of the people of Tampa.

Event organizers could use the success of this year’s gala to plan for next year, by working with brochure printers to create a mailer for city residents. Photos of the fun, plus an explanation of the Foundation’s aims, could encourage more people to attend.
