Santa Fest is back in Tampa

Tampa Fire Rescue is presenting the City of Tampa sponsored Santa Fest at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park on December 3. The annual event starts off with the Holiday Parade at 11 am; the fire chief will be driving a Little Mack Fire Truck.
Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park will be set up as a winter wonderland which will feature ice skating, make-n-take holiday crafts, interactive games and activities, holiday music and visits with Santa Claus. The Tampa Fire Rescue will also set up a safety booth; they will give away lots of free giveaway items and will also have information on fire safety.
Every Christmas we hear of tragedies in which houses burn down and people are killed due to faulty Christmas lights or decorations. The Tampa Fire Rescue booth at Santa Fest will no doubt have items provided by local brochure printers which outline the steps we must take to ensure we remain safe at Christmas. Most fire safety instructions also encourage you to set up a fire escape plan just in case you do encounter a fire.
There are some basic ways to avoid fire at Christmas. Make sure candles are not left unattended, if you have a real Christmas tree make sure it is well watered (possibly have it in a container that has water in it), make sure you have a fire guard up if you have anything flammable near the fireplace, and make sure your electrical wiring can handle the extra usage of Christmas lights.
