January 20, 2012 by James
The Children’s Gasparilla Extravaganza is taking place on January 21 from noon-7:30 pm. This free event will feature lots of children’s activities, food concessions and vendors. Dressing in pirate costume is not mandatory but is suggested.
A bicycle safety rodeo presented by the Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Committee of Hillsborough County and the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s office will take place from 11 am-2 pm. The rodeo will teach children how to ride their bikes safely in traffic and those children taking part will receive a free safety helmet.
There will be a pre-schooler’s stroll from 1:30-2:30 pm; children accompanied by a parent or guardian will show off their pirate costumes. From 3-3:30 pm the Gasparilla Air Invasion will feature fancy flying demonstrations and the United States Special Operations Command Parachute Team.
The main event of the day is the Gasparilla Parade which will take place from 3:30-6 pm on Bayshore Boulevard. It will feature marching bands, floats and lots of pirate-themed fun. While it is a free event, reserved seating is available for $20.
The day finishes off with the “Piratetechnic Extravaganza” which is a sea battle between Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla and the City of Tampa featuring amazing fireworks. It will take place between 7-7:30 pm.
The Children’s Gasparilla Extravaganza will get the city excited for the Gasparilla Pirate Fest which is set to invade Tampa on January 28. Local printing companies will very likely be providing the necessary decorations such as pirate flags, banners and posters to advertise this popular annual event.
