Donate an unwrapped toy to a needy child

NBC Miami is hosting the Caravan of Joy, a toy drive which supplies needy children throughout South Florida with a toy at Christmas. Many local area stores and organizations such as Sports Authority, Hobby Superstar, Florida Center for Allergy and Asthma Care, Santa’s Enchanted Forest and Shops at Pembroke Gardens are accepting toys until December 8. Shoppers are asked to donate a new, unwrapped toy at any of these locations.

On December 9, the Miramar Fire Department will be accepting toy donations all day from 7 am-7 pm. Also, Santa will make two appearances; 11 am-noon and 5-6:30 pm. Families in the area can make a day out of it; they can teach their children how they should always try and help the unfortunate and the children can get to see Santa and tell him what they would like for Christmas.

NBC Miami will most likely be using printing services companies to help spread the word about the Caravan of Joy. Posters and flyers will ensure that as many people in the area know about the event as possible in order for it to be a great success.

Christmas has really become all about the children. Adults enjoy the camaraderie and family togetherness at Christmas; gifts and the food really are secondary. However, children want to know that Santa will remember where they live and that he will bring them a new toy. It’s not their fault that they live in poverty; no child should have to go without a present at Christmas-time.
