Winter Springs offers an opportunity to support the arts

September 23, 2012 by

It is now less than a month until the 5th annual Winter Springs Festival of the Arts will take place on Blumberg Boulevard in Winter Springs. The festival features the work of 125 artists who are eligible for prizes totaling $13,000.

The types of art for sale will include paintings, photographs, jewelry, ceramics, pottery, and drawings. There will also be jazz music on the main stage, food vendors, wine sampling, children’s activities such as face painting, a children’s entertainment stage, a student art exhibit, and an emerging artists section. The festival will also feature a ‘business supports the arts’ section, in which local businesses can sell their products or promote their services. They can rent a 10 x 10 space for $250 if they are Oviedo Winter Springs Regional Chamber of Commerce members or for $400 if not.

Each year, the Winter Springs Festival of the Arts chooses one piece to become the official collectors’ poster. This year, the chosen artwork is ‘London Street’ by Charles Gatewood, who won the Best in Show prize at last year’s festival. The poster, which was more than likely to have been printed by local printing companies, will probably be a big seller to those who visit the festival from all over the area, including nearby Longwood. It will serve both as a keepsake for the festival and as an attractive work of art suitable for framing.

The festival will take place on October 20 – 21 from 10:00 am – 5:00 pm each day. Admission is free and as many as 20,000 are expected to visit over the weekend. For more information, please call 407-278-4871.
