September car show to heat up with chili challenge

The city of Longwood hosts the Downtown Longwood Cruise in Car Show on the second Saturday of every month. The show gives anyone in the area the opportunity to show off their car, truck or motorcycle, regardless of its year, make, or model, free of charge. The show usually also features an assortment of food trucks, a DJ, and beer and wine for purchase.

This September, the 1st annual Longwood Chili Cookoff, will be a new addition to the monthly car show for that month. The cook off is a presentation of Longwood Leisure Services. Entry fees are $75 for a professional or civic team and $25 for a hometown or public services team. Visitors will be able to buy tasting tickets so that they can help judge which chili is the best, and proceeds from the event go to Parks and Recreation programs. It is hoped that this new annual event will draw lots more people into downtown Longwood and allow many of them to show off their prized chili recipes.

It is likely that organizers will be working with Longwood printing companies to prepare. This might include purchasing banners for decoration or to highlight team names, signs to help direct people, and flyers to advertise the chili cookoff throughout the community.

The event will take place on September 14 beginning at 4:00 pm. Tasting tickets are $5 for a pack. For more information about the cookoff or about the car show, call 407-260-3484.
