The Jacksonville Jazz Festival will take place from May 24th – 27th in the Heart of Downtown Jacksonville.

The festival will kick off with the Jacksonville Jazz Piano Competition at the Florida Theatre on May 24th. This is a ticketed event. The jazz festival will have several stages set up downtown which will feature such artists as Sonny Rollins, Corea, Clarke and White, Patti Austin and the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra and Poncho Sanchez and his Latin Jazz Band featuring Terence Blanchard.

The Art in the Heart of Downtown art show and sale will take place in conjunction with the Jazz Festival; this is a juried show. Artists who are interested in competing must apply to a selection committee; the type of art accepted includes digital, printmaking, drawing, jewelry, glass and painting. Each artist must pay a $35 entry fee and then a rental fee for a booth to show and sell their works; booths cost $210, $260, $285 or $335, the price depends on size and location. There will be cash prizes for the winners; Best in Show wins $1,000, 1st prize is $750, 2nd prize is $500 and 3rd prize is $250.

The poster being used for this year’s Jacksonville Jazz Festival Is St. Johns River Rhapsody by artist Joe Roache; his was one of 150 submitted by the public for this year’s poster. Poster printing companies in the area will probably be very busy keeping up with the demand. Posters cost $50 signed and $25 unsigned.

This is a free event. However, there are VIP and preferred seating tickets available. A VIP Package costs $240 and a preferred seating ticket costs $60 in advance and $70 on the day of the performances.
