Walk with Walgreens to raise money for diabetes cure

This weekend, Walgreens of South Florida (which includes the city of Hollywood) and the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation (DRIF) will be holding its Walk with Walgreens Health Fair and Family Fun Day for the third year in a row.

No doubt flyer printing is being used to encourage as many people to either participate in or donate to the event in order to raise as much money as possible for research to find a cure for diabetes. The Diabetes Research Institute at the School of Medicine at the University of Miami will be the beneficiary of all the proceeds.

In addition to the event next Saturday, Walgreens stores in South Florida will offer ‘scannables’ in the amounts of $1, $5, and $10 with the DRIF logo on them. Customers can then write their names on top of these items and they will then be on display on the walls of the stores for everyone to see the contributions.

Coinciding with the event will be a 5K Run and a Keep Believin’ Half Marathon to Cure Diabetes. These and the Walgreens event will both end at the Sun Life Stadium and those who participate will be able to see themselves as they enter the stadium on display screens. In the stadium there will be other activities including a vintage car show, carnival games, and sandcastle exhibitions. John ‘Footy’ Kross, an icon in radio, will be the emcee for the event, which will be kicked off by Joe Rose, an alumnus of the Miami Dolphins.

It all takes place this Saturday, April 20th at Sun Life Stadium
