Weekend event to celebrate the era of Art Deco

December 27, 2013 by

The 37th annual Art Deco Weekend is taking place at various venues on Ocean Drive in Miami Beach this January. It is a presentation of the Miami Design Preservation League.

There will be plenty of activities taking place over the weekend, including an Ocean Drive tour, the Kid-at-Heart film series (which will show films from the 1930s including Shirley Temple and Our Gang movies), a street festival, and an auto show. There are also set to be lectures on topics such as ‘Art Deco of Napier, New Zealand’ and ‘Modern American Design’.

Other activities include a music festival that will feature bands such as Sara Jane and The Blue Notes, an antique toy exhibit, a fashion show, and the Arf Deco Dog parade. If that is not enough to quench the thirst of art-hunters, local vendors will be on hand during the weekend to sell a variety of arts and crafts merchandise.

This year’s event is being advertised with help from a poster created by Adriana Sanchez, which was chosen through a contest. When organizers of events such as this want to advertise all over the area, including nearby Hialeah, they often ask local printing companies to carry out poster printing for them. They can then be displayed in various public buildings, bus shelters, and the like throughout the community.

The Art Deco Weekend is taking place on Ocean Drive from January 17 to 19. Admission for most of the events is free. To find out more information, call 305-672-2014.
