Kathy O’Brien of the Fort Lauderdale Country Club has won the 2013 Dancing with the Stars of Broward championship, receiving the trophy as her prize. Dancing with her partner Pablo Malco, Kathy performed routines in disco and the tango which wowed the audience and judges. In addition, the event raised $91,200 for The Pantry of Broward.

Together with Hollywood’s The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, the Pantry of Broward hosted the annual event at the ballroom of the hotel. The dancers were rewarded by hundreds of guests all cheering for their preferred duos. It is the fifth anniversary of Dancing with the Stars of Broward, which raises money for seniors who are struggling to manage on a low income or are bringing up grandchildren. A professional dancer partners each of the five community leaders, just the same as the popular TV show. The dance pairs spend weeks training and perform two routines, both very energetic. The criterion for winning is not only to amaze the judges and audience, but also to make a real effort to fundraise for the event.

The executive of The Pantry of Broward, Penny Loughan said that this year’s event had surpassed other years. The non-profit provides services to more than 425 clients and grandchildren in the Broward County area of Florida. Local printing services may have been required to promote the spectacular event and also to produce leaflets containing more information of the non-profit organization.
