Nominations for the PIAS Graphic Awards Competition being accepted

March 6, 2012 by

Nominations for the Printing Industry Association of the South (PIAS) Graphic Awards Competition are being accepted until March 9. The winners will be chosen between March 21 and 22 and will be awarded at the PIAS annual convention awards banquet in June.

Graphics and print companies from all over the South, including Montgomery are likely pouring over their printing work from last year and choosing the best to submit to this prestigious competition.

The competition is open to PIAS members from graphic arts firms or for in-plant printing operations. Winners will be chosen by three judges and there are 62 categories in three divisions; those divisions are companies with 25 or less employees, companies with 25-75 employees and companies with over 75 employees. The categories include calendars, booklets, business cards, catalogs, labels, manuals, newspaper inserts and promotional campaigns. There is also a trade house division which includes nine categories including die cutting, embossing and perfect binding.

Each entry costs $15 and each company can enter as many items as it wishes; the winners will be charged extra for “hanging” fees. Items must have been produced in 2011. Judges assign points to each entry and those who receive between 18 and 22 votes will receive an Award of Merit while those who score between 23 and 30 votes receive an Award of Excellence. Each Best of Category winner will compete for Best of Division; the winners of each division compete for Best of Show. Winners of the Best of Category, Best of Division and Best of Show will be automatically entered into the National Premier Print Awards competition.
