Downtown Bakersfield has plans for a busy February

February 4, 2014 by

In a measure to make the downtown area of Bakersfield more appealing to visitors and residents, the downtown business association is holding a number of events throughout the month of February.

The events include live performances, art classes for children and clean-up days. Bakersfield Downtown Business Association can use printing services to distribute the calendar of events to stores and businesses in the area.

Two local theaters will be producing musicals during February. Stars Theatre Restaurant is presenting The Producers, the popular Mel Brooks comedy, until February 7. People can buy tickets to the show only or purchase a dinner, such as sirloin tips or grilled lemon chicken, too. The Spotlight Theater will be presenting the musical In the Woods until February 11.

The Bakersfield Art Association is going to host several classes for children throughout the month. Classes are $20 each or $80 for the month and are drop-in. Children should wear “art-friendly” clothing to each class. The Art Association will also hold workshops and lessons for adults, such as a “Fun with Watercolor, Pen and Ink” class on February 19.

On February 23, children and parents can gather at the Fox Theater for the 7th annual Read Across Bakersfield event. The film version of The Indian in the Cupboard will be shown at 2:30 pm, preceded by a block party featuring the Cat in the Hat and face painting. The event is free, but people must pick up tickets in advance.
