The 2013 Hall of Fame Tennis Championships will be taking place in Newport for a week in July. Players taking part will be competing for the Van Alen Cup and it is part of the Association of Tennis Players (ATP) world tour.

The championship will bring some of the greatest players in the world of tennis to Newport. This will include Rod Laver ,who will be taking part in the Hall of Fame Enshrinement Ceremony. Two of the players being added to the Hall of Fame this year are Cliff Drysdale and Martina Hingis. Billie Jean King will also be hosting a cocktail reception, which will include a re-broadcast of her tennis match with Bobby Riggs – this year is the 40th anniversary of that event.

This event will probably attract people from all over, including nearby Providence. No doubt print companies will be helping the organizers advertise throughout the community.

The Hall of Fame Tennis Championship will run from July 8 – 14 at the International Tennis Hall of Fame. Tickets to individual matches begin at $12 for adults and $6 for youth, while tickets for the entire series range in price from $190 – 300.

The Hall of Fame Enshrinement Ceremony will take place on July 13 beginning at 11:15 am; tickets are $70 or $85. Tickets for the Billie Jean King reception are $200, or $30 for those who just wish to view the tennis match. For more information, visit the event website.
