May 6, 2012 by Mark
ICON 7, the Illustration Conference is coming to Providence from June 13th to 16th; it will take place at the Renaissance Hotel. Tickets are $575 or $525 for staff and alumni of the Rhode Island School of Design. The conference attracts graphic artists and others from all over the world.
The conference will feature presentations, breakfast, workshops, coffee breaks and opening and closing parties. There will be approximately 40 mainstage and workshop speakers who will be encouraging and inspiring those in the graphics industry. Among the speakers will be Chad W. Beckerman, Shanth Suresh Enjett, Jessica Hische and Paul Sahre. Cartoonist Lynda Barry will be giving a keynote speech. The speakers will include artists, graphic designers, publishers, art directors, illustrators and authors.
Some of the workshops are “Drawing on experience: a Providence sketch trek” presented by Fred Lynch, “Building Blocks of the graphic novel” presented by R. Kikua Johnson, “Colors, contrast and compliments” presented by Mary Jane Begin and “Navigating print and pattern” presented by Julia Rothman.
Among the other events at the conference will be an opening reception for the exhibit “RISDicons: a legacy of illustration from the Rhode Island School of Design” and the Rhodeshow Bazaar which is a showcase and marketplace for illustrators. A half-table can be rented for $250 or a full table for $250. This is a perfect opportunity for them to be recognized by those in the industry. Providence printing companies can help the illustrators put together a display of their work that will appeal to those professionals in the audience; local brochure printers can also help them put together a booklet they can hand out that highlights all of their work.
