Newport to make the most of winter
January 6, 2013 by Mark
Winter brings with it many outdoor activities such as skiing, tobogganing, and even snowshoeing. One event taking place shortly that will have plenty of activities to offer, both indoors and outdoors, is the Newport Winter Festival.
The festival will take place at various venues throughout Newport. Among more than 150 activities will be the 18th annual Samuel Adams Chili Cookoff, a Children’s Fair, the 3rd annual Chicken Wing Cookoff, and a Festival Day at Eaton’s Beach. There will also be an Illuminated Garden at Ballard Park.
Those taking part in the festival purchase buttons allowing them entry into various venues. There will also be concerts taking place throughout the festival including one by the cast of Beatlemania – ticket prices for these vary depending on act and venue. Another attraction will be ice sculpting demonstrations, scenic train rides, walking tour,s and a “make your own marshmallow snowman” workshop. Collectors T-shirts will also be available for sale.
There will definitely be something to appeal to every member of the family and the festival is likely to draw visitors from all over, including nearby Middletown. Organizers will no doubt be working with local printing companies to spread the word in the community, perhaps hoping that flyer printing can raise awareness in the area.
The 25th annual Newport Winter Festival will take place from February 15 – 24. Buttons are $9 each and proceeds go to benefit various charities, such as the Leukemia Society of America. For more information, call 401-847-7666.
