Middleton set for picnic in the park
August 25, 2012 by James
The 5th annual Picnic in Paradise will take place at Paradise Valley Park on September 9 from 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm. This is a free family-friendly event presented by the Middletown Historical Society.
Families are encouraged to bring their own picnic, although, in past years, food vendors have also provided a variety of food choices. Arts and crafts vendors have also appeared at the picnic in past years to sell their handmade works of art. Everyone will get to sample some johnnycakes – which are made from corn meal, milk, and salt – and enjoy the music of Lois Vaughan. In addition, there will be tours of the working windmill and of Paradise School. Photographs detailing the history of middletown will be on display at the school and author Dr. Christine Haverington will be autographing copies of her book ‘Images of America: Middletown’. There will also be races and games for the entire family.
Organizers of the event will no doubt be ordering services such as banner printing from Middletown printing companies, to help them let the public know where the picnic is taking place and help add a festive air to the park. Banners are relatively inexpensive and seem often raise excitement about an event, letting the public know who is presenting and who has made it possible through sponsorship.
This should be a fun way for the family to celebrate the end of summer together and to learn something about the history of the community in which they live.
