It’s time for the Edna golf tournament in Middletown

The 19th annual Edna Open Golf Tournament will take place at Wanumetonomy Golf and Country Club on July 30 beginning at 12:00 pm. Fees are $125, or $45 for dinner only, with proceeds going to support Visiting Nurse Services of Newport and Bristol Counties.

Fees include 18 holes of golf, a golf card, a hamburger or hotdog lunch, and a steak fry awards banquet. There will also be a silent auction where local businesses are being asked to donate items to be auctioned off. Sponsorships are also available, as is the opportunity to name awards handed out to golfers.

The golf tournament is in honor of Edna Schwartz and several members of her family who were cared for by Visiting Nurse Services, which is an independent home health care organization.

Golf tournaments held in the summer are more often than not just networking events. While this definitely can be a networking event, it is mainly a fund raising event for a very worthy organization. However, it would still be in the best interest of those who attend to bring along a business card. Printing a few and placing them in your golf bag, after first consulting a print company, will ensure that you can pass on a card or two to your fellow middletown business peers if the opportunity arises.

Summer is a great time for golf and the fact it is being played for charity makes it even better, so this will be a rewarding and enjoyable opportunity to tee off in the community.
