Get rid of the winter blues at the Newport Winter Festival
February 9, 2012 by Mark
The 2012 Newport Winter Festival will take place from February 17-26. Various venues in the city of Newport will be presenting over 150 free and for-pay events. A winter festival button gets you into all the free venues and gives you discounts on tickets to the concert series; buttons are $9. Proceeds from the buttons go to fund several local charities.
The festival will feature a chili cook-off at the Newport Harbor Hotel on February 18, a health and wellness expo at the Hotel Viking on February 18 and an ice sculpture demonstration on February 18, a chicken wing competition at the Hyatt Hotel on February 25, an Eagles tribute band at the Newport Marriot on February 25. There will also be a children’s fair taking place on February 19-20 which will feature music, face painting, balloon animals and arts and crafts. Throughout the festival there will also be fudge making demonstrations, distillery tours, Beatlemania and the Best Yoga/Fitness Instructor in Newport County competition. The event will finish off with Festival Day at Easton’s Beach on February 26 from 11 am-2 pm. This event presented by the Kiwanis Club will feature a sand/snow sculpture contest, juggles, a polar bear plunge and a block hunt.
Newport area printing companies, including Middletown, with no doubt have been very busy helping the organizers to get ready for this yearly event. It seems to be the perfect way to fight off the winter blues and get ready to welcome spring.
