Ring in the New Year in Providence

December 17, 2011 by

New Year’s Eve is quickly approaching and Bright Night Providence will help you ring it in with style. To attend all the events, everyone two and up must purchase a wristband. Wristbands cost $15 and will rise to $20 on the day of the event.

Bright Night Providence has taken place in downtown Providence since 2003. It is “Rhode Island’s largest New Year’s Eve Celebration.” People from all over the area, including Johnston come to take part in this family-friendly event. Printing companies have been busy producing wristbands, poster, banners and lot of decorations for the event. Various venues throughout the city will be presenting musical acts and there will be choirs, art workshops for the kids, strolling performers and a Family Fun Fair.

The 2nd annual World Masquerade Ball will also take place on December 31 at the Rhode Island Convention Center from 9 pm-3 am. Tickets are $60; wristband holders get $10 off the price. This is a semi-formal event for those over 21 and masks are optional. Part of the proceeds for the event goes to the Gloria Gemma Foundation, a breast cancer awareness organization. The event will feature the band Santa Mamba, an iWink fashion show, hors d’oeuvres, six bar stations, three DJs and free champagne at midnight. There will also be a merchant’s pavilion with raffles.

Whichever event you choose in Providence, or if you decide to attend both, you will be ringing in the New Year in style.
