Shakespeare classic to be on show

Newtown Arts Company is set to present one of William Shakespeare’s most famous plays—Twelfth Night, and it promises to be a night of fun, romance, and excitement for those who attend.
Twelfth night marked the traditional end of the Christmas season in Elizabethan England and as such was a time for much merry-making, which inevitably led to romantic entanglements. The play was chosen by the Arts Company for this time of year due to the romantic (and comedic) aspects of the play that make it an obvious Valentine’s Day outing for couples looking for entertainment.
In the play there are various encounters between characters that demonstrate their love and admiration for one another—to comedic and sometimes tender effect. Those who choose to attend may wish to stay afterwards for picture taking with cast members for possible postcard printing.
Director Joe McKernan will be holding an open discussion regarding the play following the Sunday and Tuesday performances, for those who wish to attend.
The company will offer six performances in total. The first of them is this evening, and starts at 7:30 pm, as do the shows next Tuesday and Wednesday. This Friday and Saturday’s performances will start at 8:00 pm, and there will also be a matinee on Sunday at 3:00 pm. Tickets will cost $17 for Rear Reserved seating and $20 for Front Reserved.
