Annual Newtown Holiday Parade ready to stomp in
November 15, 2013 by Mark
McCaffrey’s Super Market’s Holiday Parade, aka. Newtown’s Holiday Parade, is just around the corner and promises to be even more enjoyable than ever. Last year’s procession had over 1,800 participants, fifty entries and over 5,000 bystanders.
This year entries will be judged by a reviewing panel and will be based on creativity, presentation and theme, and recognition will be given for best theme, best decorations, creativity, musical group, non-profit, and best overall. Winners will be announced at the end of the parade, and their names will appear on the Newtown Business Association website and in other local media.
Banner printing will no doubt be in great demand as soon as each unit decides on its theme, design, and color scheme. Parade participation requires registration and a $75 fee (except for non-profit organizations, which can register free). Sponsorships are also available at $75 to $1,000, and an interesting caveat to Newtown Parade sponsoring is called the ‘exclusive sponsorship’. This $5,000 level gets next year’s parade named for the exclusive sponsor’s business; hence, this year’s parade is called the McCaffrey’s Supermarket’s Holiday Parade. No doubt the name of the 2014 parade will be announced on the day.
The parade will be held on December 8, from 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm at 301 South State Street. It will start at the Stocking Works, then progress north on Washington Avenue, turning left then right onto Sycamore Street and finishing at Durham Road. As always, this event will happen rain or shine.
