Oktoberfest set for another September start

August 29, 2013 by

The 15th annual Pennsylvania Bavarian Oktoberfest is once again defying its name by taking place in late September.

Sponsored by the Greater Canonsburg Chamber of Commerce, the event will take over the streets of downtown Canonsburg, which will be decorated with German flags and banners. There will be two stages featuring either German cultural performances or local contemporary music bands. Performers slated for this year’s event include the Washington Jazz Orchestra, Alpen Schuhplattler, and The Weedrags. There will also be plenty of German food and beer, amusement rides, games, and vendors, so there will be a chance for guests to get their hands on arts and crafts, food, and home party products from companies like Avon, Pampered Chef, and Mary Kay.

In addition, the winner of the Name the Brew III Contest will be announced during the opening ceremonies. Each year, a beer is specially named for the Oktoberfest celebration, and the deadline for putting a brew forward for this is September 4.

This annual celebration attracts visitors from all over the area, including McMurray. Local print companies are sure to be asked to provide marketing items such as flyers to big up the event. Organizers have probably got the banners and flags used for decoration of the downtown area from these same companies.

The Pennsylvania Bavarian Oktoberfest will take place from September 20 – 22. Admission is free. The opening ceremonies will take place on the Beer Garden stage on September 20 beginning at 7:00 PM. To learn more about the events, contact Anita Brecosky at 724-745-1812.
