The York Business Academy is a series of seminars presented by the City of York on starting and growing a small business. The seminars will take place weekly at 9:30-11:30 am from February 25-April 14 and will be held at the J.D. Brown Center for Entrepreneurship. The cost is $35 which will be refunded if you attend a majority of the classes.

The seminars will be taught by York College professors, MBA graduate students, York College Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) and local business professionals. The seminars are:

• Introductory session – February 25
• Strategic planning – March 3
• Financial assessment – March 10
• Promotional strategy – March 17
• Skills – March 24
• Developing your business plan – April 14

In addition to learning these important skills, it will also be a chance for area business leaders from places such as York and Hanover to network with their fellow business peers. Those who attend should bring along their business card. Printing some extras to hand out is always a good idea as you never know when you will grow your referral network.

Those starting a small business or trying to make one grow often feel like they are alone; that there are so many things that have to be done that they often become overwhelmed. However, there are always people willing to help and there are always place to go to learn all you need to know. Seminar series’ such as this go a long way in helping small businesses get started correctly and to prosper.
