Hanover bands take to the stage

Hanover, PA, the snack capital of the country, has other talents too. Nine of those talents will take to the stage during the Hanover Music and Art in the Park Festival on Saturday, June 23.
The Music and Art in the Park festival will feature eight hours of free, live music from 10 bands. Nine of the bands are based in Hanover. The headlining act is Boxcar Social, a five-piece band who play “Americana” music. Other bands include Barecat, Violet Hour, and House Exit. The styles range from country to pop.
The music festival was put together by Joshua Perkins, a native of Hanover. Although Perkins now works in Auburn, PA, he is donating his time and effort to organize the Hanover festival. He says he is putting it together to fill a void for musicians in the area. Local bands do not have many opportunities to play live in front of an audience. After the closure of an area club, KClinger’s, bands lost an important performance venue.
The festival has grown considerably since last year. During its first year, the festival featured three bands and about 60 people attended. This year, Perkins is expecting a crowd of several hundred. Postcard printing and poster printing can help Perkins and others spread the word of the festival around Hanover.
Music is not the only attraction at Saturday’s festival. Art lovers will also find plenty of arts and crafts on sale, from pottery to painting. The festival will also have games and activities for the children. Food and drink will be for sale. The event takes place in Wirt Park from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
