Enjoy a family fun day at the YMCA

The 20th annual Family YMCA Healthy Kids Day will take place on April 28. This free event is expected to draw at least 400 people and volunteers are always welcome. The event is intended to show kids the importance of being active and living a healthy lifestyle.
In past years, the Healthy Kids Day has included lots of fitness activities, raffles, giveaways such as t-shirts and goody bags. Community organizations from all over the Easton area will also be showcasing their programs and services this year; local brochure printing services will most likely be providing the literature describing those programs and services.
Children’s health is one of the most important topics in our country today. For the first time, children have a lower life expectancy than their parents. It’s hard to know exactly why. We do know that kids tend to be less active and that they spend a lot of time in front of the TV or the computer instead of being outside playing. There are also a lot more processed foods and fast food restaurants these days than there were in the past. There are programs in schools to ensure that only healthy food is served, but kids can always go elsewhere.
Events such as the Healthy Kids Day show kids just how much fun it is to be physically active. It also gives their parents the chance to play with their kids and to rediscover for themselves how much fun getting healthy is.
