Students put together fundraiser for vets and pets

At the end of March, students in the sports and entertainment marketing class at Mars High School, near Cranberry Township, will help others while learning a few important tools of the trade.

The class is putting together a fundraiser that will collect money for the local humane society and for veterans in Western PA, dubbed ‘Paws for Vets Dog Walk’.

The students have been hard at work on the fundraiser since the first day of school back in September. The event began to take shape in October.

A team of 11 students is working on the event. The goal is to raise over $5,000 and to get 200 dogs involved in the walk. To get people interested in the event, the students could use poster printing to spread the word and solicit donations.

The class is organizing the event with the Western Pennsylvania Humane Society. Brittney Woolaghan, a junior, came up with the initial idea. After contacting the humane society, the class decided to focus on veterans.

Those who are interested in donating money or joining the walk can sign up online at Pawsinforvets.org. The site lets people sign up for teams or simply donate. The team that raises the most money will receive a prize the day of the walk.

The fundraiser will take place at 8:30am on March 30.
