Ice skating season underway in Cranberry Township

November 8, 2013 by

A drop in temperatures and the changing of seasons means it’s time for outdoor ice skating rinks to open. The Allegheny County rinks in North Park and South Park opened for the season on November 7.

The rinks will remain open until the middle of March 2014, weather permitting. Each will be open from Tuesday through Sunday as well as certain holiday Mondays, including the Monday before Thanksgiving, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, and President’s Day.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, the rinks will only be open in the evenings from 7:30 pm until 9:00 pm. They will be open at 9:00 am on Wednesdays and Fridays, and will close sporadically throughout the day. On Saturdays and Sundays, the rinks will open at 11:00 am. The county could use a local print company to produce fliers listing the opening hours for each rink.

Both will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day but will be opened for extended hours, from noon until 5:00 pm, on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.

Admission to the rinks is $5 for adult residents of the county and $6 for non-residents. The fees for children and senior citizens are $3 for residents and $4 for non-residents. On Wednesday evenings, from 4:30 pm to 7:00 pm, families of two adults and up to four children can skate together for the fee of $10 for residents or $13 for non-residents. Each rink will also be offering free skating lessons for people over the age of five throughout the season.
