Local club in for barrel of laughs

The Conshohocken-Plymouth Whitemarsh Rotary Club has made a name for itself by hosting a number of fundraisers and charitable events over the years, and its upcoming comedy night is no exception.
Proceeds from the Comedy Night Benefit will be donated to the Barren Hill Fire Company in nearby Lafayette Hill. Local comedian Chris Smith will serve as headliner during the event, and is likely to draw his usual healthy following.
The upcoming fundraiser will be the third time Smith has performed for the Rotary Club. According to the club’s president Tom Cassidy, having Smith perform is a surefire way to get people through the doors.
Tickets to the event include a dinner as well as the show. The meal will be catered by Gary and Ata Goldberg, the parents of Rotary Club member Heather, and will be a buffet-style, bring-your-own-bottle affair. The Rotary Club could use postcard printing to promote the event and to produce tickets.
The show is just one of the many charitable events the club has planned for the holiday season. It also partners with the Colonial Neighborhood Council, a social and emergency services organization, to provide full Thanksgiving meals to up to 15 families in need in the area. The club also provides wrapped holiday gifts to about 20 children in the area.
Tickets to the benefit are $30, and it will take place this Friday, November 8 at 7:30 pm. It will be held at the Barren Hill Fire Company.
