Broomall Fire Company cools down with creative fundraiser
August 14, 2012 by Mark
It was emergency medical responders versus firefighters at a local Rita’s Water Ice last Wednesday, August 8. The Marple Township Ambulance Corps and the Broomall Fire Company went head-to-head in a water ice scoop off.
Members of each organization worked competing windows at Rita’s, serving happy customers water ice treats throughout the evening. The “Scoop Off” was held to raise money for each company. To add a little friendly competition to the proceedings, the team that scooped the most also won the ‘Golden Spoon’.
Unfortunately for the Broomall Fire Company, Marple Township won the Golden Spoon and the right to brag about their victory for the next year.
As part of the fundraiser, both organizations earned a percentage of the profits they produced that evening. To sweeten the deal, the Broomall Rita’s gave an additional $500 to each group.
To promote the event, the Broomall Fire Company and Marple Township Ambulance Corps could have made use of postcard printing. The postcards could inform area residents of the purpose of the fundraiser and provide information on the exciting activities that took place, aside from the purchase of water ice. During the event, children had the opportunity to have their faces painted. There was also a ‘Spin the Wheel’ giveaway that let people take chances on winning prizes.
This year was the first for the Scoop Off Fundraiser. The event lasted for three hours, between 6:00 pm and 9:00 pm. Both the Fire Company and emergency responders hope to return next year.
