January 5, 2014 by

The Radnor Township School District, near Bala Cynwyd, has joined forces with the Agnes Irwin School to bring a best-selling author to the area this week.

Rachel Simmons, an educator, coach, and author, will speak to students, parents, and staff at the schools. Over the course of her visit, Simmons will deliver three presentations, each one custom tailored to its audience.

Simmons is the author of two best-selling books about raising confidence and addressing exclusion in young people. During her presentations, she will focus on the culture of relational aggression among some youngsters particularly online. Her talks will cover abusive friendships, leaving others out, and cyberbullying.

The first presentation is designed for teachers and educational administrators. Faculty and staff from both the Radnor Township School District and Agnes Irwin are invited to attend. The presentation will take place at Radnor Middle School in the afternoon of January 9. The schools could use a print company to make up flyer to distribute to staff.

Simmons will give a presentation designed for parents at the Agnes Irwin School on January 9, at 7:00 pm. The parent presentation is free for all.

She will also speak directly to students in grades 5 through 8 at Radnor on January 10. Students in the middle school grades are the most likely to experience relational aggression behavior and bullying. The presentation for students will give them tools and tips to handle having best friends, as well as worst enemies.
