Shoe-lovers in Syosset can rest easy, as a new DSW Designer Shoe Warehouse has opened up.
The Designer Shoe Warehouse (DSW) opened its doors for the first time on Thursday, October 18. The store is open Monday – Saturday between the hours of 10:00 am to 9:00 pm and from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm on Sundays. DSW sells shoes and accessories for men and women in stores.
DSW is open in the spot that once held a Borders bookstore. The 26,650 square foot location has been empty for nearly a year, since the Syosset Borders shut down. The space briefly held a Halloween store before sitting vacant for nearly 12 months.
The closure of Borders in September of 2011 may have lefta lot of Syosset residents feeling uncertain about the future of the space and of the business district. Although the chain had filed for bankruptcy and a deal to save it from closing had fallen through, the bookstore was a favorite among residents.
So far, things are looking good for the new DSW. The parking lot at the discount shoe retailer has been full since its Thursday opening. There is no word yet from representatives of the company as to when a grand opening celebration will take place. Banner printing from a Syosset print company will come in handy if the store does decide to have a big opening celebration. The store could also make use of flyers to let potential customers and residents of the area know about the store’s presence.
