Newsies, which has taken critics and audiences by storm, will tour from October next year, with the preview here showing ahead of the Philadelphia launch.
Announcing the plans, Disney Theatrical Productions said that 25 confirmed cities will be visited across a 43-week run. It is expected that the run will be extended, with the organisers saying they plan to announce more dates in the run up to the tour getting underway.
Talking about the success of the show and the upcoming tour, the president of Disney Theatrical Productions, Thomas Schumacher, said:
“We continue to be overwhelmed by the passion and support for Newsies on Broadway and are elated that the show will continue on the road.
“I am so proud that patrons will soon have the opportunity to enjoy Newsies in their own backyards.”
Inspired by the real life fight of newsboy Kid Blink against the biggest publishers of the age, Newsies is a dramatic snapshot of the New York publishing scene at the turn of the century.
Since it had its Broadway premiere back in March last year, the show has ticked all the right boxes. Now within sight of its 700th performance, with ticket sales showing that someone from every state has seen the show, it has broken records and won awards across the run.
