Rockville Centre to host fire fighter parade
June 20, 2013 by Mark
Rockville Centre is to play host to this year’s parade to mark the heroes volunteering for our local fire services.
Mayor Francis X. Murray announced on Wednesday, June 18, that the village was to play its role as the municipal host for the The Nassau County Fourth Battalion Fire District Parade. With the parade set to take place this coming Saturday, June 22 too, banner printing is probably already out in force to get the event marketed. It will be hoped that the battalions serving our district are well prepared too.
The popularly attended parade is certainly an opportunity for the public to thank the volunteers of all five local Fire Departments, but it is also a chance for them to compete against each other.
While the Departments of East Rockaway, Lakeview, lynbrook, Malverne, and, of course, our very own Rockville Centre Fire Department, take the applause of the public they serve, it is also a chance for them to see who displays their honors best.
With both the full and junior teams taking part too, it is always a hotly contested but fun affair.
Residents are being warned that there will be a little disruption though. With the work continuing on Maple Avenue, the route for the parade will go from North Long Beach Road and on to the Anderson Recreation Center. It will take in Demott Avenue.
Running from 6:00 pm through 7:00 pm, refreshments will be served and a performance by the band Switch will also entertain the crowd gathered at the recreation center.
