Rockville Centre gears up for St Patrick’s Parade 2013

One of the biggest St Patrick Day Parades in the entire state is just weeks away, as Rockville Centre gets itself ready for its 17th hosting of the event.

Led out again by Mayor Francis X. Murray, together with this year’s Grand Marshal Thomas A. Glynn, Jr., the parade will start at Maple and Jefferson Avenue.

From here it will proceed past all the banners, posters, and other paraphernalia through downtown on its way to St Agnes Cathedral.

Talking about this year’s show, Mayor Francis said:

“What better way to come together as a community then a parade?

“Its [sic] one of the most exciting days here in Rockville Centre. The downtown shops are booming, the streets are full of Rockville Centre pride and we are able to give back to three worthy causes.”

For the past 16 years the RVC St. Patrick’s Parade has grown tremendously, and is now a huge fundraiser for charitable causes. In its lifetime, the event has raised well over $700,000 for national, Irish, and local causes.

This year will see monies donated to the Jillian E. Daly Foundation, a fund researching autoimmune and blood disorder diseases; the ALS Association Greater New York Chapter, a provider of services to those affected by ALS in the New York area; and Crosscare, the community social care, young persons’, and homelessness agency.

It all gets underway at 12:00 noon, with print companies here already with their work cut out to deliver adequate poster, leaflet and banner printing for the day.
