Snow time like the present for winter hiking
February 22, 2013 by James
The Howland’s Island Snowshoe Hike, a great event for winter enthusiasts, will be a guided hike that will lead people around one of the most interesting and wildest locations in the Montezuma Wetlands Complex, Howland’s Island.
This weekend, hikers will enjoy the panoramic beauty of this unique winter wonderland. Flyer printing was most likely distributed on bulletin boards to let the public know when this event will be happening.
This event is great for people of all ages and families are encouraged to bring the children and come on out for an interesting and fun day. While on the hike, participants will have the opportunity to see which of the bird species call Howland’s Island home throughout the year. After completing the hike, guests are asked to come back and warm up over a cup of hot cocoa.
While out in nature, enjoying a cup of hot cocoa, one option is to bring a winter picnic and enjoy an early dinner out in the wilds. Friends of the Montezuma Wetland Complex will receive a 50% discount on the ticket prices.
Tickets, including snowshoes, cost $20 per family, $7.50 per adult, and $5 per child. Tickets, without snowshoes, cost $15 per family, $5 per adult, and $3 per child. Please note that registration is required.
The Howland’s Island Snowshoe Hike will be taking place on tomorrow, February 23 from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm at the Montezuma Audubon Center in Savannah, New York – a short drive from Rochester, New York.
