Fundraisers planned and promoted during Breast Cancer Awareness Month
October 22, 2012 by Mark
The Rochester-based SIS (Sustain / Inspire / Survive) breast cancer charity is taking advantage of the increased attention focused on it and similar organizations during the month of October. SIS provides financial assistance and quality-of-life services to those undergoing treatment for breast cancer.
The first-ever FLIP 4 Breast Cancer took place on Sunday, October 14. Teams competed by flipping oversized tractor/truck tires, painted pink for the occasion. Participants paid for their entries, and other donations were taken in conjunction with the event. The unique day was organized by a personal trainer for a local fitness club.
The Laugh Out Loud with SIS comedy night benefit will return for a fifth year on October 22 at rochester’s Geva Theatre Center. Showcasing several nationally-known comedians, the evening includes complimentary tastings of food from area restaurants, a silent auction, and pre-show entertainment by local performers. Tickets are $40 (groups of 10+ $35), and are available through the venue.
Saturday, March 2, 2013 will be the SIS Pink Tie Gala, themed to ‘Light Up the Night with Magic’. This major fundraiser will be held at the Casa Larga Vineyards in Fairport, just outside of Rochester. Auctions, a raffle, dinner, dancing and more are promised. Fundraisers like these rely upon the support of area businesses and community organizations for their success. Promotion of events may be donated by printing companies, website hosts, and local advertisers, with overhead costs paid out of sponsorships. To become involved in these or other SIS activities, contact the organization directly through its website.
