The Port Jefferson Station region is set to welcome some of the best athletes in the state of New York and beyond when the Rotary Biathlon takes place later this year.

The Rotary Club of Port Jefferson is presenting the 500 yard swim and 5K run on the first Saturday of August.

Registration is underway at the Village of Port Jefferson Recreation Department and space is limited. Pre-registration is $20 for an individual or $30 for a team. If space is available on the day of the race, the price will be $25 per person or $35 for a team.

The race check-in time will be from 8:00-8:45am, with the race starting promptly at 9:00am. There will be eight age categories, along with men, women and coed teams. Children under 13 years of age won’t be able to participate in the event but are welcome to come and cheer their family members and friends on.

The 500 loop swim race will take place along the designated beach area, while the 5K run will wind through the Harbor Hills residential area and back down to the beach.

Awards will be given to overall male and female winners, and the first three positions within each group.

Participants should bring their own drinking water and wet suits are permitted. Restroom facilities will be located along the beach area.

Banner printing is a standard order with local print companies for most races. Banners can be placed in highly visible areas along the routes to provide directional guidance to the runners.
