New Rochelle farmers market to feature fall produce

The Down to Earth farmers markets recently announced that the new line-up of fruits and vegetables for the fall season will be coming to New Rochelle as of this month. No doubt they are using banner printing throughout the town to make residents aware of the seasonal items, and to urge them to visit the New Rochelle market, which is located near the high school on North Avenue.

According to Down to Earth Markets host Amy Gardiner, it is the time of the year for butternut squash and pumpkins, as well as cruciferous vegetables such as cauliflowers, cabbages, and broccoli. She added that the fall is also the season for apples, and they are bountiful this year.

Gardiner is also planning some tastings for the fall that will include a tasting of melons and squash because some, like the fairytale pumpkin, have an excellent taste even when they are raw. In October, she plans to have apple tastings as well.

Participating vendors in the Down to Earth Farmers Markets include Alex’s Tomato Farm, which grows fruits such as pears, plums, apples, and tomatoes, as well as such vegetables as zucchinis, sweet corn, and peppers. Dagele Brothers Produce, meanwhile, specializes in onions and salad greens in addition to vegetables from artichokes to zucchinis. Meredith’s Bread offers all kinds of baked goods, and Sohha Greek Yogurt has eggs, honey, and a variety of dairy products.

The Down to Earth Farmers Markets are in New Rochelle on Fridays from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm and will be running until November 22.
