Professionals and scholars to be honored in Merrick
June 13, 2012 by Mark
The Merrick Chamber of Commerce will be giving honors to the 2012 Merchant and Professional of the Year, along with its annual Scholarship Night on Monday, June 18, at 6:30 pm. The dinner at RS Jones Restaurant is $25 per person. Those attending are likely to be in need of printing services for their businesses, including stationery printing and business card printing .
The annual event helps to focus attention on the professionals and merchants who make Merrick such a wonderful place to dine and shop. Last year’s winners were Serengeti Design Studios, a digital photo lab and design studio, and Dr. David Sukoff, an orthodontic specialist. Both were commended for their service to the community, going above and beyond the call of business.
Scholarships will also be awarded to seniors from each of the three high schools in Bellmore-Merrick, giving them opportunities to shine in higher education as they have done in their secondary studies.
The Chamber of Commerce, a volunteer organization, is dedicated to the enhancement of town life. Another annual event, the Kids Fest which is held each spring, features vendors, rides, and other activities, and raises funds for the scholarship awards.
RS Jones, a southwestern BBQ restaurant originally known as Rattlesnake Jones, provides the comfortable and “down-home” setting for the award dinner. Owner Margaret Mueller is a past president of the Chamber of Commerce and recipient of the “Woman of Distinction” award in 2010 and 2011. A Merrick favorite since 1993, the unique restaurant is an example of the town’s vibrant dining scene.
