Annual school drive hosted by Assemblyman McDonough

August 4, 2013 by

Assemblyman David McDonough, the representative from Merrick, recently announced that he has started his School Supply Collection Drive which will run throughout the next few weeks.

No doubt McDonough’s office is using flyer printing and poster printing techniques to let those in the surrounding communities know about the annual drive, which is being organized in conjunction with the John Theissen Children’s Foundation. It is hoped that plenty of school supplies can be collected for the benefit of the area’s underprivileged children.

The supplies which are most needed include spiral notebooks, backpacks, pens and pencils, markers, and crayons. Monetary donations will also be accepted. This way, new clothing can be purchased for the children to wear throughout the school year.

According to McDonough, the John Theissen Children’s Foundation has been conducting this Drive for many years and he feels that he can make an important contribution to the community by joining with the Foundation to help those who are less fortunate.

Thiessen said that children whose families cannot afford school supplies or new clothes often find back-to-school time particularly difficult. He added that research has shown that children who do not have new supplies and clothing are often too embarrassed and do not attend the first day of school because of their circumstances.

Donations are being accepted at McDonough’s office in Bellmore every day from 10:00am to 4:00pm. Those wishing to help can also visit the John Theissen Children’s Foundation headquarters in Wantagh. The drive finishes on August 23.
