Field of Flags to fly high at Massapequa Park public schools

The Massapequa Park school district announced last week that it will once again be partnering with the Massapequa Kiwanis Club to erect the Field of Honor of American flags at four public schools in the area in support of the country’s veterans. The schools and the Kiwanis Club are most likely using flyer printing to announce this special event.
Each flag for an honoree of the military is available for sponsorship at $30 and can be placed at one of four schools, which are Massapequa High School, Alfred G. Berner Middle School, John H. West Elementary School, and Nassau County BOCES/Carmans Road. A $100 donation can be used for sponsoring four flags at one location, or one flag at each of the four locations. Each person who sponsors will receive an American flag measuring 3×5 in size, along with a ribbon for their honoree.
This year, the Kiwanis Club has added an option to sponsor a flag for one of the branches of the military that includes the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard, and POW*MIA for $250 per location. These are limited in availability to six sponsorships at each location.
Sponsorships need to be submitted to the Kiwanis Club by October 25, as the dedication ceremony for the Field of Flags will be held on Saturday, November 3. On December 8, the previous year’s Field of Honor flags will be retired and the flags of those sponsors who do not claim their flags will be donated to Veteran organizations or classrooms in the area.
