Quartet of gardens to welcome guests
June 8, 2013 by James
At the end of the month, the Historical Society of Islip Hamlet will be holding its second annual Garden Walk, entitled ‘Secret Gardens of Islip’.
It will take place in the private gardens of four people who volunteered to open them to the public for the Society. Each location will have light refreshments to offer visitors, and guests will be welcome to stroll through and explore the grounds. There will also be plants on sale, the proceeds of which will go to supporting the Society.
The Historical Society of Islip Hamlet was founded in 1992 with the goal of preserving historical buildings and sites in the area. The Society has preserved 23 sites in the region and established six historic street markers. It also offers a generous $10,000 scholarship to a graduating senior in the area every year.
Organizers for this event would be well served by printing companies to help with their advertising needs. Promotional posters or flyers would be a great way to draw attention to this event, even in further afield areas like Smithtown or Lindenhurst.
It takes place on Saturday, June 29, from 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm, with tickets going on sale on Monday, June 10. They are available for order from the Society or can be picked up at Caroline’s Flower Shoppe in Islip, New York. The admission fee is $15 for anyone 16 years or older. Those who want to get a preview of the grounds are also welcome to stop by Brookwood Hall’s History Room to see photographs of the gardens and landscapes dating back to the early 1900s.
